Color Hunter

What is Color Hunter?

Color Hunter is a place to find and make color palettes created from images.

A color palette may be generated from a Flickr image

To find color palettes on Color Hunter, enter a search term in the box at the top of the page. You can search by tag or hex color code or image URL. If you have an image, you can upload it and get a color palette based on the colors in the image.

This color generator can search Flickr for images with the tags you specify.  You can also enter the url for the image and a palette will be generated.  I tried this with one of my Flickr photos with limited success.  To find the url on a Mac, press control and mouse click.  Then you can click “copy image address.”  You can also find the image address on Flickr by clicking on “all sizes” and scroll down to the bottom of the page for the url.  This is only available in profiles which have not blocked this feature.

I had more success uploading an image file and generating a color palette from that image.  Clicking on a color in any palette will show other palettes containing that color.

When you search for color palettes by tag, ColorHunter.com searches Flickr.com via Flickr’s API for images labeled with the tag you entered. The thumbnails of the Flickr images are used to create a color palette.   ColorHunter.com uses the Flickr API but is not endorsed or certified by Flickr.

You don’t have to log in to use Color Hunter. The only reason to create an account on Color Hunter is to keep a list of your favorite color palettes.

To add a color palette to your favorites, first create an acount and then click on the ‘add to favorites’ link next to the palettes your like.

To see all your favorite color palettes, first log in and then click on the ‘your favorites’ link at the top of the page.
